Hospice Kingston

Established in 1985, Hospice Kingston has been providing comfort and support to people with life-limiting illnesses and their families for over 30 years. IBI Group is leading the functional programming and design for the first palliative care centre of excellence and residential hospice in Kingston, offering specialized care and personal support for patients seeking a comfortable home-like environment during their final stage of life.

The building siting, its architectural form and inherent materiality reinforce a sense of place within the local neighbourhood, broader community and the City of Kingston. The building’s design has been thoughtfully articulated in order to make the residents’ final days as comfortable as possible. To achieve this, the orientation of the building maximizes daylight and views to the majority of interior spaces while incorporating an energy efficient, passive solar design.

Each of the large, well-appointed bedrooms incorporate the latest hospice infection control design standards and provide residents with a strong connection to nature through individual bay windows. The component elements of the design, including materials of construction, finishes, textures, patterns, colours and lighting have been carefully selected and integrated to provide a warm, home-like ambiance.
